Ear
Reconstruction (Otoplasty)
The
protuberant ear is a common deformity produced in the early
stages of development due to the lack of formation of specific
folds in the ear. Sometimes also due to an excess of conchal
cartilage(excess cartilage involving the cup shaped bowl near
the ear canal) treatment is a simple, safe and often painless
procedure, which can be performed without a general anesthetic. Treatment
involves reforming the natural curves to the cartilage through
the placement of fine sutures behind the ear. Sometimes cartilage
of the concha is reduced when needed or desired.
