Areola Enlargement/Reduction

A Sexier Areola Can Be Yours!

Areola Enlargement/Reduction: Overview

The areola is the tan to brown colored area that surrounds the nipple. This area with the nipple is the focal point of your breasts. The better it looks, the better your breasts look. If you have areolas that are too small, too large, or misshapen, Dr. Gray can make them more proportionate to help enhance the overall appearance of your breasts. Nipple sensation is rarely altered and breastfeeding remains intact.

Areola Enlargement/Reduction: Procedure

Getting an areola reduction or enlargement is safe and simple. During this procedure, Dr. Gray makes a small incision around the areola, then another within the circumference of the first. The location of these circular cuts, whether they are inside or outside of the circumference of the areola, determines whether the areola is reduce or enlarged. After the two small incisions are made the middle portion is removed and the two sides are brought together. This procedure almost never affects nipple sensation and the ability to breastfeed remains intact. While an areola reduction tightens skin, it does not lift the nipple or breast. If you’d prefer to have your nipple lifted, Dr. Gray can do this separately or in conjunction with a breast lift.
The method to reduce or enlarge your areola will be reviewed with you during your consultation, so that you will have the option to discuss which procedure is right for you.

Areola Enlargement/Reduction: Recovery

After an areola enlargement/reduction, patients can return to work the same day. Most feel minimal to no discomfort during recovery. The procedure can be performed under local anesthetic so no general anesthesia is required.
